Over the last few months I have been working on a large order for Exeter University; who commissioned me to The 50 nominee awards are in the shape of stars and are made by piecing small pieces of waste stained glass together and then fusing them together in the kiln. The 10 winners awards were made by casting the glass into boxes I specially made from fireboard, each with a fibre paper star in the centre. I then melted the glass on a very hot casting cycle so it completely to

The outside world keeps on turning and Gloss Gallery summer show is already up and running, which I am pleased to be part of and as the summer holidays grow nearer I am feverishly working on my recycled sculpture for TRAIL 2014 and working towards my first Devon Open Studios in Teignmouth, I will be Anyway, the sun is shining and recycled washing machines do not turn themselves into sculptures, so I will head out into the Sunday sunshine. #panel #art #artglass #lead #seaside
The design brief was simple: bright, jewel like colours, based on a Nautilus/spiral design and to obscure the existing patterned sealed glass unit which the panel is to be fixed in front of. At 63 cm across, its the biggest fused piece I have made and many thanks to Ray Boundy at Glowworm Glass for the hire of his kiln and watching it for me! I kept the colour scheme simple and bright and by leaving small gaps between the coloured pieces the design has an orderly segmented fe
birthday present stained glass panel Not just any green house a lovely wooden bespoke Grow House for the surprise Birthday present of the client’s wife. I Stained glass panel with tomato, aubergine and pepper completed this stained glass commission several weeks ago now and I have just received the photos of it in its new home. Thankfully it fits perfectly and I think it looks very handsome! The brief was to create a window full of vegetables and to include the words ‘Lisa’s
Oh dear, I totally gave up on my blog a day! whoops. But that is because I have been double busy the last few weeks. Open Studios ended well with over 100 visitors, but now its over its straight into the pre Christmas frantic stock making! I have however, finished some bigger pieces and this is what today’s post is about! Finally, I installed an abstract panel this evening in a bathroom/hallway internal window space. The design brief was to create a piece inspired by images o
I was struck by the history of the house and I wanted this to be reflected in the windows;Newton St Cyres has a wonderful arboretum with a special bridge from the house to the gardens and I wanted this reflected too. Reading the history of the Manor house, which goes back to medieval times, I was struck with the importance of wheat and trees in the The front door panel is only small and I wanted to create a piece that would really make a statement, like a small jewel and so
Today was my scheduled day to finish a large panel I have been working on for (all stages of it being made and details are on previous post, click here), so I have spent the day polishing and finishing the details of the etching with an electric etching pen. I always do the pen etching right at the end as I don’t like the black stove polish to get stuck in the grooves of the glass. This is a slightly risky practice though as if there is a weak point in the glass the vibration

Way back in Autumn 2010 I started discussing a large window commission to be fitted into a double glazed unit for a family in Cambridgeshire, first the glazer was busy, so they missed their slot with me and since then I have been flat out with other projects. They have been very patient and finally I have made a decent start on their piece! The brief was for a design based on their favourite spot, Crackington on the North Devon coast to fill a large window looking onto a larg
But I have managed to make a new shoal of acid etched fish, they few off my craft stall in the run up to Christmas and I am listing some in my folksy shop and sending the rest to Spinnakers Gallery, Credition and Atelier, Barnstable. I was contacted recently by a customer on Folksy who wished me to adapt a previous Dartmoor design she l First of all I cut the glass using a glass cutter and ensure all the pieces fit within the lines of the cutting pattern. Then the finished panel is ready to pack up and send off to its new home. #panel #artglass #lead #window #design #commission #Exeter #dartmoor #windowdecoration #artisanstainedglass #AmyMccarthy #httpfolksycomshopsamyorangejuice #bespoke #blue #green #la
The design brief was to create lotus flower panels to fit with the colour scheme of the new kitchen and I have used light grey and green on green Spectrum water glass for the leaves and water, Spectrum wispy pink and white glass for the flowers and I have acid etched yellow cathedral glass for the centre of the flowers. The design flows from top to bottom and I was inspired by designs in an Art Nouveau pattern book. I have ensured all of the water glass pattern runs horizont
A lovely couple from near Hereford came to pick up their finished panel today, they were on holiday in Devon for the weekend, so I had to get it done by lunchtime today!
I enjoyed making this 28×74 cm panel to replace the window in an internal hallway. The lady who commissioned the piece wanted the elements of an angel motif and peacock feathers. Her partners name is angel in German and her mothers maiden name was Peacock, This is what I came up with!
The panel has an etche
I have re All of our upstairs windows have these lights above the doors and I am slowly working my way around the house! On the 25th November at Exeter Cathedral there is a performance of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and local contemporary artists have been invited to create a visual response to one of the pieces of the movement (sorry if the terminology is wrong I am not a classical buff!) to be exhibited along side the performance. I have chosen The Bogatyr Gates
I am trying to incorporate new techniques into my panels, and I have been experimenting with acid etching. I have managed to etch this fish across several pieces of glass and I am very pleased with the effect and it really adds depth to a classic panel.
I have new commissions in the next couple of weeks, so I will have lots of exciting posts soon
