Jan 2014 West Teignmouth Project Manager for Teign Heritage
Apr 2016 Funded by The Health Lottery
I was privileged to manage £40,000 public art and history project exploring the development of West Teignmouth. One aspect of this project was devising and leading art projects (exploring the local history and environment of West Teignmouth) with local children, older people and community groups in a range of venues from schools to care homes (over 200 children in total). Amongst other things we decorated all the local bus stops with artwork inspired by the local landscape and industries and created work in response to visits to the local museum (Teign Heritage Centre). In addition to these workshops, I led two years of craft workshops with older people. From conversations at these events, I recorded participant’s memories to create an aural history archive and a photo archive of the area through time. I then used the results to write and create the accompanying museum exhibition at Teign Heritage Centre. There is also an online version of the exhibition. http://www.teignheritage.org.uk/teign-heritage-wins-funds-local-6

Mar 2013 Exeter Community Centre Multi-Sensory Window. Funded by Exeter Arts Council . (Short Listed Arts and Health in South West Prize 2014)
The West of England Blind School was sited in Exeter city centre for 150 years, when it moved to new premises the building was turned into Exeter Community Centre. As part of this renovation, I was commissioned to create a centre piece artwork for the main foyer. Elderly blind alumni of the school were invited to a workshop where we created basket weave textures (they were all taught basket weaving at school to a professional standard) which I then cast in glass. With archive photos fired onto glass, braille and even mulberries (off the ancient tree in the grounds) cast into glass this is a feast for the eyes and full of textures for visually impaired people to enjoy with their hands.
